Using EMU 1212M with another sound card
Hi there, I have one EMU 1212M plus the 1616M microdock , and all runs smooth. But since sometimes like to play one or other game i think, that is perfectly nonsense to use a perfect sound card as this to play, so i tried to instal this Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 4, with the EMU.But no luck, or i have one or the other, and its ridiculous to eveytime i tried play a game like GTA IV, having to open my PC to disconect the EMU, and then connect the Audigy 4. Is there any way of using both Sound cards and choose witch one i want? Like an exterior aplication of somehow? Im sorry for my english, but its not my native language. My system is: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66 2 Gbs Kignston Mobo Intel Dg33BU 2 Western Digital 500 Gbs XFX 8600 GTS 256 Mb Ram Win XP Pro SP3 EMU 1212M with Microdock Audigy 4(if it is possible to conect them both...) Thank you

You can try to install kx drivers in one of the cards and see how it goes.

Re: Using EMU 1212M with another sound card
I know of a few success stories with people getting the 1616 up and running smooth then adding in a audigy 2.. do NOT add new drivers.. just use the reg drivers from the 1616/1212m install. If you add drivers they conflict and in there it seems maybe your trouble...
You could also try different hardware configs.. one setup for gaming and other for music, IF it works it would be a simple reboot to switch, I think. You MIGHT be able to just swap the hardware profiles.
Last thing.. make sure you tell windows in each profile to ignore the other audio device you do not want to use.. or everytime you boot up under the different profile it will try to instal the "uninstalled but connected" hardware in that profile.

KX info can be found here.. just start reading and before you know it you'll understand better. In a nutshell, they are drivers made by some dude that likes doing it and has added FX and such for people to use. Just read it if you are interested in messing around with other non E-MU drivers. http://www.driverheaven.net/kx-project-audio-driver-support-forum/Different Hardware Profiles.. NOT to be confused with Logon Identities. They are two different things. Open up "Help and Support" (Start then Help and Support) do a search with "Hardware Profiles" and the first thing in the list that should come up is, "Create a Hardware Profile" click on it and follow the instructions... This MAY or MAY NOT work for you. Good chance it will, I use to use it. Rob

Re: Using EMU 1212M with another sound card
Usually, running E-Mu setup solves problem automatically (if cards installed in proper order: Audigy, than E-Mu). Or, you can manually reinstall Audigy driver in Hardware Manager (do NOT remove old Audigy drivers - you will need additional panels for Audigy, like speaker settings and eax console), from E-Mu drivers folder (you may need latest "web"-version). Keep in mind, that most Audigy utils may fail to read current driver status (For me, it happens with an Audigy 2, but, I can set any parameters, and save them)

Re: Using EMU 1212M with another sound card
Hum, I could make a guide for installing two e-mu cards, one with kx drivers and the other one with e-mu drivers. I'm writing this by heart, it's been months since I installed any drivers for my cards, but it should work, if it works, I'll put it in the driver section. As always, there's several ways, but this one should work too, I hope. Something like this: 1 - get the latest e-mu drivers here: http://www.emu.com/support/2 - get the latest kx drivers here: http://www.driverheaven.net/general-discussion/3 - get winrar: http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm4 - Turn off the machine, insert the first E-mu card in your machine (We'll be installing emu's drivers on this one), then: Extract emu's driver package (not the patchmix package) with winrar. Inside of the folder you just extracted should be \Binary\Drivers\wdm\wdma_emu.inf Go to the control panel->system->device manager, and indicate that file when manually choosing the driver for your newly-inserted- unrecognized-exclamation-marked e-mu card. 5 - Install the patchmix package normally, and reboot. 6 - Turn off the machine, insert the 2nd e-mu card (we'll install kx drivers on this one): 7 - Install kx package, when the installer finishes, uncheck "Run Kx Project Audio Driver" and click Finish. We'll do it manually. 8 - Go to control panel->system->device manager, and indicate an *.inf file that should be somewhere inside <your program files folder>/kx audio driver/<version>/ named kx.inf to your newly-inserted-unrecognized-exclamation-marked card. 9 - Have fun. Any volunteers to test this?

Re: Using EMU 1212M with another sound card
Hi guys thank you all for your help. I found the cause of all my troubles. (I think LOL) The Audigy 4 has a EMU chip on it...so, this is what i think it was the problem. I tried the profile manager with the Audigy 4...and nothing...as soon as the EMU drivers were in it...neither one of them worked. So i picked up a normal sound blaster, install it, and then i did the profile manager thing and its working like a charm! Now i can work ... and play. Thank you all once more and happy new year!

Re: Using EMU 1212M with another sound card
Thanks Johny, I successfully instaled both kx and EMU dirvers at once in one pc that has 2 EMU cards(1212m + 1820m). But, I still have no sound from analog output.
In kx manager, all input and output devices are displayed as soundblaster style. how can i replace them to EMU card's input output devices?

Re: Using EMU 1212M with another sound card
I solve my problem what i did is: right click kx icon in system tray. chose E-DSP control and reload firmware. Are there any resources about E-DSP setting in Kx driver?

Re: Using EMU 1212M with another sound card
Cool! It works then. There are still some issues with the driver, but you can get it all to work. I recommend this thread: http://www.driverheaven.net/bug-reports ... ports.htmlIn short (as always, this is one of the many ways of doing it) : 1 - make a .bat file with "edspctrl -defaults" in it an put a shortcut to it in the startup folder (or run edspctrl -defaults on the command prompt on every boot). 2 - for the audiodock, connect it only after the windows has started completely (don't do anything in kx before pluggin it in). For enabling the inputs, with a default dsp setup, right click the kx tray icon, go to the mixer and put it like this: The namings are still according to the live/audigy cards, but I guess E. will fix that later.

Re: Using EMU 1212M with another sound card
I understood that kx needs reloading firmware every power on/off. I/O card In is working fine. When Kx fully supports E-DSP, I'll use your MixMatrix 16x9 a lot. Thanks in advance

Re: Using EMU 1212M with another sound card
I once had a Xfi card, did more or less the same thing... the xfi first, installed CL's drivers, then added the audigy and manually installed kx drivers.

Re: Using EMU 1212M with another sound card
Well i used to have SB X-Fi and 1820m /later 1212m on my Windows XP System some time ago. There was a way to install the drivers so they would not crash each other. Main problem is, that driver architecure and file names from Creative/EMU are the same and one driver overwrites files from the other driver. You could try to deactivate the one card that was not in use in your windows controls so leaving only one card active at a time ( ie you don't need the SOund Böaster while recording). This all changed when i moved to Windows Vista. I had no luck installing both drivers without causing blue screens. I then removed my X-Fi and bought myself an ASUS Xonar. Having no problems since then. Btw. i just received the new EMU newsletter and it has interesting new products: Quote: E-MU PCI Express 1616M, 1212M and 0404 Digital Audio Systems
24-bit/192kHz interfaces for PCIe equipped PCs. The 1616M PCIe, 1212M PCIe, and 0404 PCIe are PCI Express versions of the company's celebrated Digital Audio Systems that feature a new high speed PCI Express 1 lane interface running at 400 Megabytes per second, which can transfer data four times faster than standard PCI in both directions simultaneously.
E-MU Digital Audio Systems deliver everything you need to produce audio on a PC with professional results: hardware-accelerated effects and mixing, 24-bit/192kHz converters (1212M and 16161M contain the same A/D converters used in Digidesign®'s ProTools® HD 192 I/O interface), comprehensive digital options and seamless compatibility with your favorite PC audio/sequencer software.
The new Vista-compatible Production Tools Software Bundle now includes: Cakewalk SONAR LE 6.2, Steinberg Cubase 4 LE, Ableton Live Lite 6 E-MU Edition, IK Multimedia AmpliTube LE, IK Multimedia T-RackS EQ (1616M only), Celemony Melodyne essential, Waldorf Attack, Waldorf D-Pole, Waldorf PPG Wave, SFX Machine LT, Creative EAX® Advanced HD™ Alchemy (Vista Only), E-MU Proteus VX (XP Only). Sounds like my new baby.
