E-mu 0404 PCI Please help me! before I go insane
Ok so I have a PCI E-mu 0404 audio interface. When I first got it 2 months ago It worked fine! I built a new PC and installed Windows XP SP2 and now it wont work!
It doesn't find the card as a E-mu DSP card it keeps telling me that its a Creative Audigy Audio Processor! I have been through my bios system and turned off everything that has a IRQ that I am not using. The drivers from the CD or the new ones wont install at all either because it says there is not a supported device in my system or it is unable to find a e-mu product installed.
Could the card be bad just out of the blue?? I have tryed it in 3 other system and the same thing it wont detect the card as the correct card and the drivers wont even install!
I checked the IRQ and its using IRQ 5 which I don't think is being used.
If it would detect the card as E-mu I would at lease be on the right track.. I have a feeling it just a bad card now. I don't know how because I was using a static wrist strap when I took everything out and even put it back into the static bag during storage till the new PC got here.
Please help me before I go insane

Hi Jay, It sounds like somewhere along the line you inadvertently let Windows boot up and find the EMU card. When it does that and you don't say "No" in time, or miss the message for whatever reason, Windoze identifies the EMU card as a Soundblaster card and goes ahead and installs some goofy generic drivers for it that are included in Windoze. The EMU FAQs pinned thread, which is located in the Patchmix Forum here (may not be the greatest place... ) explains how to do a "Virgin Reinstall" of EMU cards that go into PCI slots: Quote: *Uninstall PatchMix and the drivers from the uninstaller or from add/remove programs. (You may not have to do this if you couldn't install them in the first place, but make sure they are not there by checking the Programs list, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs.)
*Power down and remove PCI card.
*Boot up and let windows do it's own clean up. (All this means really is to boot up completely one time, the "cleanup" will happen in the background as it boots, etc. )
*Power down and insert PCI card.
*Cancel windows hardware wizard if it pops up (and it should) and then install the most recent PatchMix and driver updates.
*You may need to load a new factory template in PatchMix and then rebuild any custom session templates you had from before. (Since this is a new machine, you are likely to ignore this last one, which is concerned more with people who have updated the drivers and found prolems, etc. )
Give that a good try, follow it exactly step-by-step, 9 times out of 10 or better it solves the problem you are describing. --Mac

Did that and still the same thing. I e-mailed E-mu support but I am still waiting on a answer.
It doesn't say Creative Audigy Audio Processor anymore. Now its a Multimedia AUdio Controller with a yellow ! on it.
The drivers still wont install.

*Try downloading drivers from the EMU site, even if that's where you got 'em, download again, might be some file corruption or something.
*Let's hope its not a hardware issue, as in, "bad card". This occasionally can happen to any manufacturer's product, though. I'd try another physical PCI slot, too, just in case something's up along those lines...

Did the virgin install thing in 2 different PCI slots, Same thing Creative Audigy Audio Processor or Multimedia Audio Controller and the drivers from the CDrom don't work or the drivers from the emu site.
I have a feeling the card is bad.

Did the new computer you built have onboard audio from Creative and you did not uninstall the drivers? Just disabling audio in the bios often is not enough. Especially IF the onboard audio is creative... windows will auto try to run default onboard creative drivers for that card.

Don't miss the *very* important step in the "Virgin Re-Install Routine" of booting the computer up without the EMU installed. If you've done that, then you may need to use a registry cleaner thingie, of which, I can't find the link for right now... Seems to me it might have been an early E-MU Bruce posting...

Well when it found the new hardware I tried to install the drivers manually. I picked the E-Mu E-DSP Audio Processor and it took the drivers finally! but now windows so the device could not start and it is disabled. I can't enable it. It just says the device wont start.

Did you "Cancel" the "New Hardware Found..." wizard and then start-up and use the E-MU install?

Re: E-mu 0404 PCI Please help me! before I go insane
I just went through the same thing -- also starting w. a Realtek onboard AC97. Might be the same issue -- I didn't actually 1) desinstall the realtek drivers, from the sound & audio devices tab of control panel; and 2) dis-enable it in the bios set-up, first, before installing the card. I only dis-enabled it in the control panel (which is all the instructions really say to do). So altho' it 'knew' it was there, windows wouldn't fully load or reconginze the emu drivers. Only solution, after a lot of farting around re-installs, was to completely scrub the drive: ie a full reinstall of Windows (delete partion, create partition; install). (wouldn't be so bad -- it's supposed to be done every year or so -- except that I'd just done it earlier this month). Remember to keep the emu out during the windows install. You should prob'ly install the Realtek stuff at first, to provide the Roland synth sounds for playing midi files, and to make sure windows creates volume & recording mixers; and then install SP2 & all the windows updates before the emu; but then deinstall the ac97 drivers (tho' it's not nec. to add/remove the actual realtek program, so you can keep those generic synth sounds for midi playback) & shut it off in the bios before putting the card in. One small mercy: I found a site that lets you collect all the windows (and MS Office) updates you'll need in advance, so you can put them on a flash drive (if it's at least a gig), or an external drive, or burn it to a cd first; remember to also put your firewire program & info for reactivating your internet account, on it; since it's best to authenticate windows before adding the service packs. The free/donation-ware site & service is www.autopatcher.com It's fairly straightforward. Note, tho', that you have to fetch the actual Service Pack 2 (if not 3), from MS yourself [they just gather the updates (plus some add-ons). And it may take many tries to get everything, since MS tends to hang up on this service. You pick the windows flavour you want (and BTW, support for 32-bit Home XP SP2 will only be available from this site for a few more days) & other components you want, & press 'fetch,' as it were; and it inventories everything such a machine might want & pings MS & dl's them for you; but if it reports some files fail verification when finishing, it probably just means they're not all there, yet, so just keep running it again, and it'll only add the ones it hasn't got yet, til it finally finishes, or you get sick of it (some of the AWOL ones may be rather esoteric, like a new stock quotes add-in for Excel). It'll certainly save time later, both in waiting for windows update's scans & d'ls, and to install them quickly in the right places w. automatic permissions.

Try this:
- in explorer, enable hidden folders view in tools->folder options->tools - go to /windows/inf and delete all the files that start with "wma10k*.*" . Or put them in another folder, but you can delete them safely, this only prevents windows from installing its built in drivers. - try emu's bruce virgin install routine, or uninstall the card... the first option should be the best. - when you reboot, you should be able to install the card with no problems.

Re: E-mu 0404 PCI Please help me! before I go insane
Hi, did you managed to managed to solve the problem? I have the same issue with my e-mu 0404. It worked for about 1 year and a few days ago it has gone faulty. Tried to reinstall it with the latest drivers and i get this THING "Setup is unable to detect a supported product on your system". Tried to install it on two separate systems , same problem... Tried the "emu's bruce virgin install routine" , same problem. Thanks in advance

Before windows starts booting, do you see a "multimedia audio device" in the bios pci devices listing?
